Jason Downey is an attorney in Morgan & Morgan's Macon, Georgia office since July 2021. His practice is dedicated to helping individuals and their families who have been hurt due to the wrongdoing of others. Throughout his career, Jason has represented clients on both sides of the aisle, having most recently worked in-house for a major insurance company as one of their staff counsel. He has extensive trial experience, and has tried over 70 jury trials as lead attorney. Jason is rated AV-Preeminent by Martindale-Hubbell, a distinction awarded to approximately 10% of lawyers nationwide.
In 2019 Georgia Governor Brian Kemp appointed Jason to the Georgia State Board of Education where he represents the citizens of Georgia's 8th Congressional District. He was reappointed for a full 7 year term in 2020, and was elected Vice-Chairman of the Board by his fellow State Board Members. Governor Kemp also appointed Jason to the Behavioral Health Reform and Innovation Commission. Downey was elected to the Macon-Bibb County Board of Education in 2012 and served a 4 year term there from 2013-2017.
Jason has been appointed to Georgia State Bar Association Committees, and is active in various community and non-profit organizations. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for Middle Georgia Elite Fastpitch, Inc., a girl's travel/tournament softball organization. He also coaches a team for the organization and has done so since 2018.
He attended Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia, where he obtained his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communication Studies. Jason then attended Mercer Law School in Macon where he received his Juris Doctorate. He and his wife Connie, an educator in Jones County of over 20 years, live with their daughter in Gray, Georgia. In his spare time, Jason enjoys traveling, coaching his daughter's softball team, and spending time on Lake Sinclair.
