        When my wife was struck by a car three years ago, the first priority was her medical care. After she’d improved enough that this was no longer our sole concern, I thought about who should represent her in her case. I soon realized that there was just one obvious choice for us among the many practitioners in this area. Years before, defending a large class action for a big loan company, I’d been up against one of the ablest lawyers I’d ever run into at any courthouse. His specialty was PI cases, but he showed more savvy, persistence, and toughness in this case than I had seen before, or ever saw after, in an adversary. We fought it out for three years, eventually settling on fair terms. He was Lew Van Blois, and when I called him — after thirty years — he at once agreed to go to bat for my wife. Though busy with long trials in other matters, he promptly did an in-depth study of the facts, looked at the law from all angles, developed a strategy that focused on the essentials, and followed it diligently, persistently, and intelligently to a model outcome.
