Rachel Stevens graduated from Temple University's Beasley School of Law in Philadelphia where she was honored as a public interest fellow and also represented disabled workers in social security disability hearings for the school's legal aid office. Drawn to law by her passion for social justice, before coming to Temple Rachel was a community organizer (Student Area Coordinator) for two years for Amnesty International while an undergraduate at the University of Maryland and continues to be involved with Amnesty today. After graduating from Temple in 2008, she spent a year in California where she passed the bar and then worked for a social security disability lawyer in Santa Barbara before coming back to Pennsylvania to be close to family. Back on the east coast, she was admitted to the Pennsylvania and New Jersey bars and worked as a pension benefit administrator. Sidelined from her career by a series of mini-strokes (hemplegic attacks) Rachel next worked as a claims transcriptionist for a major insurance company in Oklahoma (where her husband taught college) for almost three years until her medical problems were resolved. Today, she uses her passion for justice, the compassion for others she gained from her own health issues, and her legal education and experience to fight for injured and disabled people throughout Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
