Joe was born and raised in New Mexico. He graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park, with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and a minor in Economics. He earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Notre Dame Law School. As a private attorney, fluent in English and Spanish, Joe focuses his practice on criminal defense, personal injury, and immigration cases. Joe has represented clients in state courts throughout New Mexico, and represented clients in federal courts in New Mexico, Texas, Arizona, Colorado, and South Dakota.
Prior to attending law school, Joe worked in the Washington, D.C. office of his home state senator -- U.S. Senator Pete Domenici. During law school, Joe worked as a paralegal for the Michigan Migrant Legal Assistance Project. Prior to entering private practice, Joe served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Criminal Division of the United States Attorney for the District of New Mexico. He is a three-time recipient of a U.S. Department of Justice Special Achievement Award in recognition of superior duty performance.
Joe also served for twenty-nine years as a reserve officer in the Staff Judge Advocate Corps, in the New Mexico Army National Guard. His military service includes active-duty deployments to Cuba, Kosovo, Qatar, and Afghanistan.
Joe is a member of the State Bar of New Mexico and is admitted to practice in the United States District Court for the District of New Mexico, and the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals.
