Emily Kaas-Mansfield

Emily Kaas-Mansfield joins Jacobs & Dow, LLC with six years of legal experience, three as a judicial law clerk and three in private practice. After graduation, Emily clerked for Judges Thomas A. Bishop and Thomas G. West at the Connecticut Appellate Court from 2016 to 2017. She then served in the Federal courts, clerking for then-Chief Judge Stefan R. Underhill in the United States District Court for the District of Connecticut (2017-2019), and for Judge Christopher F. Droney at the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit (2019).

Emily then joined a New Haven-based criminal defense boutique firm, where she dedicated the majority of her legal practice to helping indigent clients charged with federal and state crimes, including serious felonies. She has represented numerous defendants before the state and federal criminal courts of Connecticut. She also represented defendants after conviction, for criminal appeals and subsequent habeas corpus proceedings. At Jacobs & Dow she will continue to represent persons accused of crimes. Because Jacobs & Dow has a broad-based practice, including representation of clients on a retained basis, Emily anticipates participating in the full scope of the firm's work, including white-collar matters, as well as related civil litigation.

Emily grew up in Connecticut and received her undergraduate degrees with honors from St. Michael's College (B.A., 2010). She completed her legal education at Quinnipiac University School of Law, graduating fourth in her class. While in law school, Emily served as President of the Society for Dispute Resolution, President of the Public Interest Law Project, Note Editor of the Quinnipiac Law Review, and worked in the Civil Justice Clinic where she represented low-income individuals in civil matters.
