Karen Shimonsky is an associate in the Tampa office of Quintairos, Prieto, Wood & Boyer, P.A., practicing in the areas of professional liability, nursing home defense litigation, insurance defense, and appellate law.
Ms. Shimonsky received her Juris Doctor from Stetson University College of Law, St. Petersburg, Fla., in May 2011 and a Bachelor of Science in journalism from the University of Florida, Gainesville in 2008. While in law school, Ms. Shimonsky received the Book Award in Appellate Practice and was also a teaching assistant in Research and Writing II. In 2010, Ms. Shimonsky served as a circuit appellate intern to the Honorable Judge Linda R. Allan of the Sixth Judicial Circuit in Clearwater, Fla. She also clerked and was a full-time summer associate with a law firm representing a major city newspaper, where she helped with media law related matters including libel defense, public records requests, and trademark and copyright work. During her final year in law school and under the direction of Professor Bruce Jacob, Ms. Shimonsky conducted an independent research project entitled The First Amendment and National Security: Striking a Balance in the Age of Wikileaks. The article examines the Espionage Act as applied to the prosecution of the dissemination of information under the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.
Ms. Shimonsky is licensed to practice law in Florida and is a member of The Florida Bar.
