Sam grew up in Clarksburg, West Virginia. Following graduation from Notre Dame High School, Sam attended West Virginia University and earned a bachelor’s of science in Economics. Thereafter, Sam graduated from West Virginia University’s College of Law. After graduating from law school, Sam worked at West Virginia’s largest litigation defense law firm. As a defense lawyer Sam defended some of West Virginia’s largest industrial employers and national trucking companies. In total, Sam defended more than 500 civil lawsuits including over 30 wrongful death lawsuits.
As a defense lawyer Sam developed a “niche” in lawsuits involving serious injury or death at work-sites. Sam also developed a “niche” in lawsuits with serious injury or death involving tractor-trailers. In 2013, when the market for the exploration of natural gas spiked in North Central West Virginia Sam moved to Morgantown to focus his practice on personal injury/wrongful death lawsuits involving gas well sites.
In February 2015, Sam and his uncle created Shaffer Madia Law. Since this time Sam has represented over 230 individuals who have been injured, wronged or harmed in a variety of lawsuits. Sam has also represented the estates of 20 individuals who were killed as the result of wrongful conduct of third parties/entities. Sam currently represents several County Commissions in lawsuits against various doctors, drug distribution companies and drug manufacturing companies regarding the current drug epidemic facing our local communities.
