      Biography

      Sam Rufer is the third generation of Rufer attorneys to work at Pemberton Law and is currently a partner in the Detroit Lakes office. He practices civil litigation, working mainly in the areas of personal injury, products liability, real estate and business disputes. Sam represents a wide range of clients, from Fortune 500 companies to small business owners, non-profit organizations, municipalities and individuals. Minnesota Law and Politics Magazine has recognized Sam as a Minnesota "Rising Star" numerous times in the recent years.

      Sam was raised in Fergus Falls, Minnesota. Before law school, he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from St. John's University in Collegeville, MN. Sam received his Juris Doctorate, cum laude, from William Mitchell College of Law in St. Paul, MN.

      Sam is admitted to practice in the Minnesota State Court, North Dakota State Court and the U.S. District Court for the State of Minnesota in addition to representing clients in district and appellate courts across the United States.

      Professionally, Sam is a Past President of the Becker County Bar Association, Past Chair of the Minnesota State Bar Association Outstate Practice Council, and is a member of the Minnesota Association for Justice. Lecturing at legal seminars and authoring continuing legal education articles are examples of how he volunteers within the law community.

      Within the community, Sam donates his time to a wide variety of local groups. He is an active member of the Detroit Lakes Rotary and on the board of directors at the Detroit Country Club. He is also active with the Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce and the Lakes Curling Club. Sam uses his legal knowledge to assist a number of organizations in the area, including Habitat for Humanity and school groups. Sam has been recognized as a "Rising Star" within the community by the Chamber of Commerce for his dedication and professionalism.

      Sam, his wife Moriya, daughter Marielle and son Bastian enjoy spending time on the lake, traveling, golfing and curling.
