Sarah Dowdy Young joined the firm in 2016 and practices in the firm's Daphne office. She devotes the majority of her practice to general litigation, advising public and private sector clients in employment and discrimination law, and representing governmental entities, including the Baldwin County Board of Education. Prior to joining the firm, Sarah practiced law with a litigation firm in Houston, Texas where she represented governmental entities, colleges, universities, and private and public schools, including the Houston Independent School District- one of the largest public school districts in the United States. Sarah has experience representing and counseling clients in a wide array of employment and school law matters, including the FLSA; FMLA; disability related matters, including issues arising under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA); civil rights matters, including issues arising under the First and Fourteenth Amendments, Title VII, Title IX, the ADA, and the Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA); state and federal administrative and open government laws; and litigation of business contracts. Ms. Young conducts training for administrators and personnel on various topics, including special education, Section 504, student discipline, confidentiality, and all facets of employment issues. While in law school, Sarah clerked with the Texas Tech University General Counsel's Office as well as the United States Attorney's Office in the Northern District of Texas. Prior to law school, Sarah was an elementary school teacher. She resides in Daphne with her husband and two daughters, and in her spare time, she enjoys teaching group fitness classes at the Bounds Family YMCA in Daphne.
