      Biography

      Katie Carpenter is an attorney in our Bismarck office practicing general civil litigation.

      Katie graduated magna cum laude from the University of Jamestown in 2015, where she received her Bachelor of Arts, majoring in History, Political Science, and Spanish. Katie received several honors, awards, and scholarships during her time at the University of Jamestown. She was also highly involved in a multitude of student organizations, theatre, and choir. Following her undergraduate studies, Katie had a brief career as a 911 operator in Stutsman County before deciding to attend law school.

      Katie graduated cum laude from the University of North Dakota School of Law in 2019, where she was honored as a member of Order of the Coif, for her academic achievements, and as a member of the Order of Barristers, for her trial and oral advocacy skills. Throughout law school, she was actively involved in several student organizations and advocacy competitions, including moot court, trial team, the International Legal Honor Society of Phi Delta Phi, and the North Dakota Law Review. Katie's academic success continued in law school where she received numerous honors, scholarships, and awards for her achievements, including the UND 2018 Moot Court Best Appellee Oralist Award and was a 2018 Trial Team Regional Semi-Finalist.

      Following graduation from law school, Katie served as a judicial law clerk to the Honorable Justice Lisa Fair McEvers of the North Dakota Supreme Court. Thereafter, Katie served as a judicial law clerk to the Honorable Daniel Traynor, United States District Court for the District of North Dakota. As a law clerk, Katie gained invaluable experience in a broad array of civil and criminal matters in North Dakota and the federal system. Today, Katie uses her unique insight into the court systems to serve her clients.

      Katie has a passion for service and community involvement. Currently, Katie was elected by her peers as the President-Elect of the Young Lawyers Section of the state bar association. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with friends and family, volunteering with several philanthropic organizations, and participating in the local community choir.
