Mary Ann Stiles is a partner in the Tampa office of Quintairos, Prieto, Wood & Boyer, P.A. Ms. Stiles has extensive experience in the areas of workers' compensation, insurance defense, corporate law, administrative, regulatory, and governmental relations and advocacy. Her practice involves participation in legislative activities; and since 1978, she has served as legislative counsel to individual clients by regularly appearing before committees of the Florida Legislature and the executive branches of government on matters of importance to her clients.
Ms. Stiles has received a high level of respect among her peers for her ability, professionalism and integrity. She has attained an AV® Peer Review Rating in Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory; she is named "Florida's Legal Elite" in the area of workers' compensation defense in Florida Trend Magazine (2004, 2007, 2011); included in Best Lawyers in America® (2008, 2009, 2010, 2011); and she is recognized in Florida Super Lawyers (2006, 2007). She was dubbed the "Queen of Comp." by a Florida newspaper, The Tampa Tribune.
Previously, Ms. Stiles was the founding shareholder of Stiles, Taylor & Grace, P.A. Established in 1982, the Tampa law firm became known for its practice in the areas of workers' compensation and insurance defense. She and her firm were recognized in these areas of practice in Martindale Hubbell's Bar Register of Preeminent LawyersTM. The firm represented businesses, governmental entities, employers, and individuals in the areas of corporate and business law; legislative; real estate; labor and employment; insurance and personal injury defense and litigation.
Ms. Stiles received her Juris Doctor from Antioch School of Law in Washington, D.C. in 1978 and Bachelor of Science from Florida State University. During law school, she served an internship in the U.S. Senate on the Subcommittee of Federal Procurement Practices and Government in the Sunshine chaired by then Florida Senator Lawton Chiles. While at FSU, she was a legislative analyst to the Florida House of Representatives working on workers' compensation and labor legislative issues.
She has worked extensively with Associated Industries of Florida. Upon graduation from law school, she joined the top business lobby group as vice president and general counsel representing various business interests before the legislative and executive branches of government. She served as general counsel to Associated Industries Insurance Company, Inc.; Associated Industries Insurance Services, Inc.; Associated Industries Political Action Committee, and Florida Business United.
Ms. Stiles writes extensively and speaks frequently on matters involving workers' compensation law. She is the author of several books on the subject of Florida Workers' Compensation Law. Additionally, during her representation of employers and the insurance industry, she drafted many of the legislative changes to the workers' compensation provisions during major rewrites to the Florida Workers' Compensation Laws. She served as co-chair to the Business and Insurance Industry Coalition on Workers Compensation specifically formed by her to pass the 2003 amendments into law (2003-2006).
Ms. Stiles is co-founder of a national workers' compensation group of defense attorneys, National Workers Compensation Defense Network (NWCDN); she served as Chair from 2007-2009 and has served on the Board since its inception in 2004, through 2010.
She is a founding shareholder of Platinum Bank of Brandon, Florida and served on the board from 2001 to 2010; and on the boards and one of the shareholders of Associated Reinsurance Brokers, Inc.; and Associated Reinsurance Brokers, LTD (Bermuda). She served as the Chair of the Advisory Board - Tampa for Platinum Bank from 2006 - 2010 and serves on the Board of Directors of Lion Insurance Company.
Ms. Stiles is licensed to practice law in Florida. She has been a member of The Florida Bar since 1978. She has extensive associations in The Florida Bar, the American Bar Association including service and appointed positions in Florida state government committees and councils.
