      Biography

Matthew Maiorana brings an expertise and insight into New York personal injury litigation that is distinctive among personal injury attorneys in our State. Matt began his legal career defending cases brought by injured persons against the City of New York. His litigation skills and talents were recognized immediately and he was entrusted with defending the City of New York in the most serious and complex matters in the Special Litigation Unit. His efforts earned him a Municipal Affairs Award from the Association of the Bar of the City of New York, as well as numerous awards directly from the City of New York.

Matt has developed a significant expertise in the field of medical malpractice and devotes a large percentage of his practice to this area of personal injury law. According to the Institute of Medicine of the National Academies of Science, medical errors constitute a leading cause of death and injury to Americans. Medical errors take many different forms and arise in different contexts. Matt has successfully represented victims of malpractice and their families across the spectrum of medical errors, including failures to diagnose or treat serious diseases, surgical errors, medication errors, and birth injuries.

In the area of serious injury, Matt represents clients with injuries such as brain injury, spinal and neck injuries, fractures, and ruptured ligaments and tendons, as well as the families of deceased loved ones. He has particular experience with complex liability or damages questions, and has effectively represented clients in cases involving police officers injured or killed due to unsafe conditions or equipment; roadways that are unsafe due to improper design, signage or control; products liability; unsafe occupational or environmental injuries and exposures; mass torts and class actions; unsafe drugs; and civil rights violations.
