Barry Fertel has been a practicing attorney for over forty years. He began his career as an Assistant Attorney General with the New York Attorney General’s office. He is an experienced litigator and trial attorney having tried dozens of jury and non-jury cases. He has handled numerous cases and appeals with over seventy reported decisions involving cases where he served as counsel for one of the parties. Fertel is an experienced education lawyer with the added knowledge from having served as a member of the New Rochelle Board of Education for over fourteen years. As a veteran member of the New Rochelle Board he gained a unique familiarity and insight into the workings of a school district, special education law on a practical level, and the rights of students and staff. He served as President and Vice-President of the second largest school district in Westchester County (over 10,000 students) in the seventh largest city in New York State.
Barry Fertel is committed to community service as a member of the Board of the New Rochelle Fund for Educational Excellence. He was a member of the New Rochelle City Council from 2006 to 2019, having been overwhelming elected to represent District Five in New Rochelle. He is a hands-on attorney who understands the needs of clients and provides his legal services effectively and at a reasonable cost.
