I had the nightmare of hiring Jennifer McKinzie who was a former Juvenile Court Judge and thus I thought would be a great advocate for my case. I had already done my own paperwork and filed for my divorce months before I hired Jennifer. I filed my own TPO paperwork as well and was granted the initial TPO all by myself!! Went to hire Jennifer to help finalize the divorce and request for extension of the TPO and it literally was the biggest mistake of my life. From the day I hired her it was a money guzzling drought that left me, a military spouse with a special needs son that required 30 plus hours of therapy a week penniless, and homeless. Thanks to her lack of skills and blatant disregard for what it takes to care for a special needs child she allowed and also helped my ex husbands lawyer. All the while charging me thousands of thousands of dollars that she knew I didn’t have and was surviving solely off a child support. This was at the start of Covid and although all my paperwork for my divorce had been previously filed they felt it necessary to refile the same paperwork just to rack up that legal bill. When NOTHING had been changed on the original paperwork except that Jennifer now listed herself as my lawyer. She failed to file paperwork for a “verbal” agreement she had with my husbands lawyer regarding spousal support, martial bills and a vehicle that I was entitled to have for use per our Automatic Domestic Standing Order. Which had catastrophic results for me because I followed her instructions per that “verbal” agreement and it never got completed. She went on vacation prior to my husbands lawyer agreement on paper to all of the conditions. I emailed weekly asking her for status updates on this “order” or “agreement” that was supposed to have been made and find out that “oh well his lawyer backed out on it and changed their mind”! This is just the beginning…. I could go on and on but at the end of all this I still never got one thing done on my case except child support that I could’ve done myself with the worksheet that GA already has in their system. Last but not least this lady actually had the audacity to question if my special needs son truly was autistic or not? I had to send her papers from the military’s program, the developmental pediatrician with his formal diagnosis to “prove” to MY lawyer that my son medically needed 5 different therapies for him to have a productive and fulfilling future. Jennifer caused me unmeasurable emotional and mental pain and I felt as I was in the same situation I did when I was being abused by my husband. Her final time in court “representing” me she told the judge that I “ undermined” her and that if she found out I was lying about my finances she was going to take herself off the case. I was two days post surgery for having a titanium plate with 6 screws and 3 titanium boxes implanted into my neck because of the abuse I endured from the hands of my husband when she did this in open court. I was heavily medicated and told her ahead of time that the date wouldn’t work but she wouldn’t hear any of it and told me we had to go to court on that date. I appeared via video conference and was completed appalled at how Jennifer McKinzie completely threw me under the bus and never once stood by my side as I had hired her to do. In fact within an hour after that nightmare in court she called me demanding payment of 1000 or she would sue me. She knew I had not been able to find a job because of my sons condition and also it was COVID. This is summer of 2020 and yet she could care less told me to put it on a card. .

I needed legal advice and paid $200 to Barry for an Initial Consultation. He did give good advice on some of the questions I had. However, at about the 45 minute mark of our meeting he said he had another appointment and he pretty much shut the meeting down. He didn’t tell me at the beginning of our meeting that he had another appointment scheduled or I would have specifically asked ALL of the questions regarding ALL of my concerns. But since he abruptly ended our appointment, I was unable to ask two very simple additional questions that I had. Before I left, I asked the receptionist to ask Barry the following day if he would answer the two additional questions since I had felt rushed and didn’t have time to ask the questions to Barry myself. She called the following day and said Barry didn’t feel comfortable answering the two questions and would not answer the questions without me first retaining him as my lawyer for $3,500. The two questions I had were very general questions. I believe Barry would have been comfortable answering them had I been given a chance to ask the two questions during our 45 minute meeting. As a note, during our 45 minute Initial Consultation, Barry did indeed answer a lot of my questions, but we also spent a good deal of time talking about inconsequential stuff. Again, had I known that our meeting would be rushed with a very abrupt ending, I would have made certain that my two questions were addressed. But I am not paying a lawyer $3,500 for to answer two questions. I am displeased with the $200 Initial Consultation and would not consider using Barry for any future legal services.

The attorneys and staff at Tisdale Middleton & Land are absolutely incredible! I hired Jennifer McKinzie to help me through the process of divorcing my husband and she was amazing to work with. She patiently guided me, she listened to my concerns, she answered my questions, and most importantly she advocated for me fiercely. Jennifer has a shining reputation in the community and she is well connected, which allowed her to optimize every single part of the divorce to my benefit. Another item to note is that she and her firm charge a fair rate that is more than generous considering the skills and experience they bring to the table. Jennifer’s staff was wonderful as well. They were able to help me every step of the way so that I could ensure I was doing my part to move the process along efficiently and quickly. Divorce is an ugly thing to experience, I cannot recommend Jennifer McKinzie and Tisdale Middleton & Land highly enough!
