      Biography

Alan founded THE GARBER LAW FIRM in May 2001 to fulfill his purpose that every person should have the best legal representation when seeking justice from America’s biggest corporations and our government.

Alan's success, skill, integrity, and dedication to his clients has not gone unnoticed. He has been designated by Georgia Trend Magazine's as one of Georgia's "Legal Elite" in the areas of both Labor and Employment Law and also Business Litigation. Alan also has received Martindale Hubble's highest peer review rating: AV Preeminent.

Alan has been handling complex cases in federal and state courts in Georgia and other states for more than 15 years. Since 2001, Alan has dedicated his practice primarily to the contingency-fee representation of workers with employment problems, such as unpaid overtime and wages, unpaid commissions, discrimination and harassment because of race, sex, religion, or age, or Family Medical Leave or disability, EEOC and civil rights cases, and protecting whistleblowers trying to do what’s right. Alan has successfully handled scores of wage and hour cases, overtime and misclassification cases, and discrimination and harassment cases. His successes include class actions in Georgia, Oklahoma, and other courts in the Southeast, as well as business and commercial disputes.

For example, Alan successfully represented a company-wide class of technology specialists in a lawsuit against their employer, SunTrust Bank, for unpaid back overtime. The case received prominent media coverage from the national legal website Law.Com, the Atlanta Journal Constitution, the Atlanta Business Chronicle.

Alan is a frequent speaker and panelist at Employment Law Seminars for other attorneys. His topics have ranged from Overtime-Class Actions to Protecting Victims of Discrimination from Retaliation to Recent Developments in the Law.

Prior to establishing the firm, Alan spent a combined seven years with Sutherland Asbill & Brennan in Atlanta, Georgia and Gordon Silberman Wiggins & Childs in Birmingham, Alabama, from 1995 to 2001, where his practice ranged from complex business disputes to civil rights and discrimination cases in the Southeast. Before entering private practice, Alan clerked for United States District Judge Sharon Lovelace Blackburn in the Northern District of Alabama.

Alan received his Juris Doctor from Rutgers University Law School in 1994, where he was an editor of the Law Review. He earned his Masters in Business Administration with honors from Southern Methodist University in 1986. Alan graduated from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania in 1980.
