A partner at Levy Konigsberg LLP ("LK") Amber Long focuses on asbestos/mesothelioma, tobacco and other toxic tort litigation. Amber is admitted to practice law in New York, New Jersey, and before the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern and Southern Districts of New York and for the District of Connecticut, and before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.
Since joining LK in January 2006, Amber has represented mesothelioma victims in lawsuits filed around the country, including in New York, Delaware, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Louisiana. In addition to helping secure favorable settlements, Amber has achieved a number of victories on behalf of her clients at trial.
In November 2010, Amber acted as co-counsel to LK partner Jerome Block in a trial on behalf of a mother and son who both developed mesothelioma as a result of exposure to asbestos from automotive parts in their family's engine rebuilding and auto mechanic business. The jury returned a verdict of $1.74 million.
In December 2012, as co-counsel to Jerome Block, Amber helped win a $1.34 million award against a tobacco company on behalf of a man who started smoking as a young teenager, struggled to quit all his life, and died of lung cancer.
In July 2013, once again acting as co-counsel to Jerome Block in a case against a tobacco company, on behalf of an addicted smoker who started smoking before any warnings were ever placed on cigarette packs and advertisements, Amber helped secure a $5.5 million jury award.
In December 2014, Amber served as lead trial counsel in a mesothelioma lawsuit against a bus manufacturer. The jury's verdict, in favor of a school bus driver who was exposed to asbestos when present in the school's bus garage, totaled $7.7 million.
In addition to her trial work, Amber is a skilled writer who has drafted a number of briefs defending LK's verdicts and has argued on behalf of her clients in the Appellate Division.
In 2014, Amber was selected by Super Lawyers as a New York Metro Rising Star.
Prior to joining LK, Amber worked as a Court Attorney to a New York City Criminal Court Judge, where she drafted judicial opinions and advised the Judge on both legal and practical issues.
Amber earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Cornell University in 2002. In 2005, she graduated magna cum laude from Brooklyn Law School. At Brooklyn Law School, Amber served as a Student Bar Association representative and was a member of the Journal of Law and Policy where, during her third year, she served as a "Notes and Comments" editor.
