Andrew W. Mason is an associate attorney with Smith LaCien LLP. He has a broad range of experience in litigating complex civil matters and has worked on cases involving death and catastrophic injuries, including traumatic brain injuries, amputations, paralysis, severe burns, and other serious disabilities. Andrew also has experience litigating commercial matters involving fraudulent transfers, bankruptcy, and business insurance coverage. He also has substantial experience advising well-known Chicago entrepreneurs.
Andrew became passionate about representing injured individuals after one of his siblings was in a horrific and life changing motor vehicle accident. He understands the impact that injuries can have on both individuals and their families and the importance of obtaining an attorney that is willing to put in the time and effort to ensure that his clients receive sufficient compensation for their injuries. He knows it is critical to be accessible and responsive to his clients at all stages of their case.
Prior to helping Todd Smith and Brian LaCien start Smith LaCien LLP, Andrew assisted in litigating complex corporate bankruptcies at a large law firm in Chicago and worked as an attorney and law clerk for Todd and Brian at their previous firm, Power, Rogers & Smith, LLP. Before attending graduate school, he was employed in the banking and financial services industry at both a large international investment bank and a top performing Chicago-based investment fund. Prior to starting his professional career, Andrew spent time working in a factory and at a sawmill.
Some of Andrew's notable matters involve assisting Todd and Brian in obtaining a $9.5 million settlement for a plaintiff that suffered a brain injury after his bicycle wheel became lodged in an exposed streetcar rail. Andrew recently succeeded in a declaratory judgment requiring a large national insurance company to provide an injured plaintiff with up to $1 million of underinsured motorist coverage in the Indiana Court of Appeals.
While Andrew was in law school, he was a judicial extern for the Honorable Eugene Wedoff at the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Illinois, was a summer associate at a commercial litigation firm in Chicago, and helped start a highly profitable online and international wholesale business that regularly collaborates with high-profile artists and well-known celebrities. He has been an adjunct professor of law at Chicago-Kent College of Law since 2017.
