      Biography

Art graduated from Thomas More College in Merrimack, NH, in 1991 with a B.A. in Philosophy, and graduated from Gonzaga University School of Law in Spokane, WA in 1995. He was admitted to practice in all New York State Courts and the United States District Court for the Northern District of New York in 1996. He was admitted to practice before the United States District Court for the District of Vermont in 1998. He was admitted to practice before the United States Second Circuit Court of Appeals in 2010. He has argued in New York's Court of Appeals, the highest court in New York State.

Art's practice focuses primarily on Criminal Defense and Personal Injury/Medical Malpractice. He has practiced in Courts from Lake George to Poughkeepsie, and as far west as Utica. He has also practiced in federal court in New York and Vermont. He has handled all types of criminal cases, from murder to jaywalking, and everything in between. He has also handled a variety of injury cases, from automobile collisions to dog bites to slip-and-fall to medical malpractice. In addition to being a partner in Frost & Kavanaugh, Art is an Assistant Public Defender for Rensselaer County.

Art has been ranked "AV Preeminent" by Martindale-Hubbell (the highest level of professional excellence), which is an anonymous ranking by other attorneys in the Capital District. Art has been ranked a perfect 10.0 by clients and fellow attorneys on Avvo. Art has also been named by The National Trial Lawyers as a member of the Top 100 Trial Lawyers since 2014. Art attended In Defense of the Damned at the prestigious Trial Lawyer's College operated by famed trial attorney Gerry Spence. Art is currently enrolled in the College's Seven Steps program, and expects to graduate in 2020.

Art is a member of several professional associations, including the National Association of Criminal Defense Attorneys, the New York State Defender's Association, New York State Bar Association, and the Rensselaer County Bar Association. The New York State Defender's Association selected Art to lobby Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo to reform the techniques the police must use when interrogating crime suspects, including requiring the use of video recordings. Art has also represented someone featured on America's Most Wanted, who was accused of assaulting someone with a knife (after three days of trial, Art got all charges dismissed and his client walked out of the courtroom a free man!).

Art is a lifelong resident of Rensselaer County, and he and his wife and kids currently reside in Poestenkill. He is active in his church and area youth sports, coaching baseball and soccer.
