I reside in Portsmouth, New Hampshire with my wife of 33 years, Christyn Sieve, a psychologist, and my three children, Frances (age 27), Abigail (age 25) and Peter (age 20). We are active in the St. John's Episcopal Church in Portsmouth, where I have served on the Vestry and for the past twenty years have taught Sunday School. I enjoy skiing, tennis, hiking, swimming, weightlifting, tennis and, most of all, like most people, spending time with my family.
Since I was graduated from the Maine Law School I have been in private practice. I began with the law firm where I had clerked after my second year of law school, Cleveland, Waters and Bass, in Concord. I left that firm in October of 1986, when I became an associate at Boynton, Waldron, Doleac, Woodman and Scott in Portsmouth. I was made a partner at the Boynton firm in 1993 and practiced there until January of 2000, when I moved to the new firm of Coughlin, Rainboth, Murphy and Lown, P.A. in Portsmouth. I have been a partner at CRM and L since then and enjoy a broad general civil practice.
For 36 years I have regularly handled and tried civil cases of all kinds, including condominium matters, personal injury, workers' compensation, social security disability, business formation and commercial litigation, bankruptcy, real estate, probate and estate planning in both NH and Maine. I have appeared in all the Superior Courts in New Hampshire, in many of the Circuit Courts, Probate Courts and in the US District Court in New Hampshire. I have appeared before various Boards, including the Department of Labor, the Board of Land and Tax Appeals, and the Department of Safety. I have argued several cases before the New Hampshire Supreme Court. In Maine I have appeared or tried cases in York, Cumberland, Sagadahoc, Lincoln, Hancock, Kennebec and Androscoggin Counties, have had many cases in the York District Court and have appeared in other District Courts. I have had two appeals to the Maine Law Court and two cases in the US District Court in Maine. I handled divorce and domestic cases for about 20 years, until 2002.
