Brett West practices in family law, criminal defense, and general civil litigation. Prior to acceptance into the Juris Doctor program of the University of Richmond, Brett interned at the personal injury litigation firm of Alpert Schreyer in Waldorf, Maryland. While studying at Richmond Law, Brett honed his litigation skills at the Fredericksburg Public Defenders Office, the Petersburg Public Defenders Office, the Henrico Commonwealth Attorney’s Office, and in private practice at Erin L.T. Ranney, PLLC. Brett took an early interest in zealous representation in court, and after competing onto the Trial Advocacy team, was voted by his peers into the Executive Council. Brett also competed on behalf of Richmond in regional and national competitions, including the John L. Costello National Criminal Law Trial Advocacy Competition, advancing to the national semi-final round in three days of competition.
As the proud son of two military parents, Brett was called to serve as Vice President of the Veteran and Military Law Association, where he advocated for veterans rights and headed up annual Veterans Day Commemorations at the University of Richmond. Prior to joining Spencer, Mayoras, Koch, Cornick & Meyer, Brett interned with Rawls McNelis + Mitchell where he worked extensively with litigation support for multi-million dollar federal medical malpractice claims. Brett has appeared in General District and Circuit Courts throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia, and is based in Fredericksburg, Virginia.
