Brian P. Cavanaugh has been a partner at the firm since 2001 and concentrates his practice in the areas of family law-- divorce, custody and support, bankruptcy, creditors' and debtors' rights, civil litigation and estate administration.
In 1991, Brian graduated from West Virginia University with a Bachelor of Arts in History. In 1994, Brian graduated from the Cleveland Marshall College of Law obtaining his Juris Doctorate. Upon graduating from the Cleveland Marshall College of Law, Brian became an associate of the Law Offices of Carl P. Izzo, Jr. located in Greensburg, Pennsylvania. Later, Mr. Izzo and Brian formed the firm of Izzo & Cavanaugh. At Izzo & Cavanaugh, Brian's practice focused on the areas of bankruptcy and debtors' and creditors' rights. During his time with Izzo & Cavanaugh, Brian filed numerous Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 bankruptcy cases. Brian also assisted Mr. Izzo, an Interim Chapter 7 Trustee, with the administration of hundreds of Chapter 7 bankruptcy cases. Subsequent to Mr. Izzo's passing in 2000, Brian, in 2001, joined the firm of Stewart, McCormick, McArdle & Sorice. In 2003, Brian became a partner in the law firm ofStewart, Sorice, Farrell, Finoli & Cavanaugh, LLC. During his time at the firm, Brian has continued to practice in the areas of bankruptcy and creditors' and debtors' rights; However, Brian has expanded and grown his practice in family law, including divorce, custody and support as well as civil litigation and estate administration.
Brian is admitted to practice before the Courts of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, the United States District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania and the United States Court of Appeals for the 3rd Circuit. Brian is a member of the Pennsylvania Bar Association, the Westmoreland County Bar Association and the Allegheny County Bar Association. Mr. Cavanaugh is a member of and past chairman of the Westmoreland County Bankruptcy Committee, a member of the Allegheny County Bankruptcy Law Section, the Westmoreland County Family Law Committee and the Ned J. Nakles American Inn of Court. Brian is also the Solicitor for the Borough of New Alexandria, Pennsylvania. Brian has authored continuing legal education materials and has spoken at various seminars and continuing legal education programs relating to bankruptcy and family law.
Brian is married to Sherri and they have one son, Patrick. Brian and his family reside in Delmont and are parishioners of the partner parishes of St. Mary Our Lady of Lourdes (Export) and St. John Baptist de la Salle (Delmont) where Brian serves as a lector. Brian is a booster of the Franklin Regional Swim Team and the Murrysville Swim Club Team.
