Charles Seuntjens is a Partner for the Pemberton Law Firm and works out of the Detroit Lakes office. As a member of Pemberton's Estate Planning and Corporate Law Groups, Charles' practice focuses on state planning, business succession, corporate formation and compliance, and trust and probate administration. Charles frequently provides seminars and training on estate planning and corporate formation and compliance throughout Minnesota and North Dakota, and his clients include farm families, small and large business owners and corporations, mineral owners, and executives throughout Minnesota and North Dakota.
In addition to Estate Planning and Corporate work, Charles is also a member of Pemberton's Employment Law Group, where he advises both employers and private parties on a variety of work place issues, including minimum wage and overtime, severance agreements, unemployment compensation, drug and alcohol testing, employment contracts, restrictive covenant enforcement, Family and Medical Leave Act, hiring and termination, and employee handbooks.
After growing up on a family farm near Danbury, Iowa, Charles graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with a Bachelor of Arts in Finance, and received his Juris Doctorate from Hamline University School of Law in St. Paul. While at law school, Charles was chosen to represent Hamline at the Jessup International Moot Court Competition (where he was awarded the Best Oral Advocacy Award for being selected as one of the top two advocates at the competition) and at the National Criminal Justice Trial Advocacy Competition. Charles was also nominated out of his class to participate in the Honor Round of Oral Arguments, and was selected as a Legal Research and Writing tutor for fellow law students.
Following law school, Charles worked as a judicial law clerk for the Honorable Donald E. Rysavy and the Honorable Fred W. Wellmann, of Minnesota's Third Judicial District. Prior to joining Pemberton, Charlie worked as an attorney in the Corporate Legal Department for Federated Mutual Insurance Company, a nation-wide Company headquartered in Owatonna, Minnesota.
Charles enjoys being active in the community and currently serves as the President of the Detroit Lakes Kiwanis Chapter, and serves on the Board of Directors for the Essential Health Business Relations Committee and the Detroit Lakes Area College Foundation. In his free time, Charles enjoys spending time with his wife, Sarah, and their two children (Isabella and Grayson).
