Cliff Higby has been a partner with the law firm of Bryant, Higby & Barr, Chartered in Panama City, Florida since 1991. The law firm was founded in 1983 by partners Rowlett W. Bryant and the late Lynn C. Higby (U.S. District Judge retired 1983). Kevin Barr and Christopher Barr became partners in 2018 and the firm changed it's name from Bryant & Higby, Chartered.
Cliff graduated from Vanderbilt University in 1985 and the University of Florida Law School (JD-1988). He spent his first three years of law practice in Jacksonville, Florida with the law firm of Marks Gray before returning to Panama City where he was born and raised.
Cliff is in his 34th year of practice, and his focus is exclusively Civil Trial practice in trial and appellate courts, mainly on behalf of plaintiffs. His primary areas of practice include personal injury, wrongful death, medical negligence, commercial litigation, construction litigation, civil rights and municipal liability. Cliff is admitted to The Florida Bar, and admitted to practice in the US District Courts for the Northern and Middle Districts of Florida, The US Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit, and the United States Supreme Court.
He is AV rated by Martindale-Hubbell and has handled cases throughout the state of Florida, Georgia and Alabama. Cliff is the past President (2003-2004) of the St. Andrews Bay American Inn of Court. He was a member of the Executive Counsel for the Trial Lawyers Section of Florida from 2001-2013, and served as Chair from 2010-2011. Cliff currently serves on the Board of Directors for Southern Legal Counsel in Gainesville, a Public interest law firm dedicated to protecting the civil and human rights of those who cannot otherwise afford legal representation. In 2019, Cliff was elected to the Board of Governors for the Florida Bar, the governing body that regulates Florida's 100,000 plus lawyers.
Cliff is married and he and his wife, Susan have two daughters. Lynne is a double Gator and just graduated from the University of Florida Law School. Mary is soon to be a graduate nurse practitioner from Vanderbilt University. When time permits, Cliff enjoys golf, college football, travel and the mountains of North Carolina with his family.
Continuing Legal EducationHas complied with Florida law requiring 90 hours every two (2) years. Mr. Higby was an instructor and faculty member at The Florida Bar Advanced Trial Advocacy Course (2010 - 2016).
