Corey Elmer’s law practice focuses on business and real estate transactions throughout Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota. He advises clients on the formation of business entities (including corporations, limited liability companies, and partnerships), business mergers and acquisitions, and commercial and agricultural real estate transactions. Corey serves as legal counsel to a wide range of businesses in the region, including start-up companies and established businesses, nonprofit organizations, cooperative associations, and educational institutions. Prior to joining the Vogel Law Firm, Corey represented clients before the Minnesota Legislature and state agencies as a lobbyist for a Twin Cities law firm.
Corey obtained his education both in the United States and abroad. He received Bachelor of Arts degrees from Minnesota State University Moorhead, summa cum laude, and the University of Canterbury in New Zealand, with honours, which he earned under the auspices of the Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarship program. Corey earned his Juris Doctorate cum laude from William Mitchell College of Law in St. Paul, Minnesota. In 2005, he was selected as a Marshall Memorial Fellow by the German Marshall Fund of the United States and completed a fellowship in Europe.
Civic participation is important to Corey. He is the president of the Moorhead Rotary Club and active in Rotary International, including participation in international service missions. Corey is the past chair of the Fargo-Moorhead Area Foundation and past chair of the Minnesota State University Moorhead Alumni Foundation. He previously served on the Minnesota State Arts Board, the Moorhead Economic Development Authority, and chaired the President's Regional Advisory Council at Minnesota State University Moorhead, in addition to other leadership activities. He is the recipient of the Outstanding Young Alumni award from Minnesota State University Moorhead.
Corey grew up in the small Minnesota town of Evansville, where his family owned the local six-lane bowling alley and dance hall. Corey and his wife Brenda live in Moorhead, Minnesota with their three sons, Christian, Jack and Blake. When not practicing law, Corey enjoys traveling (especially long family road trips), spending time with his family, and cheering on the kids in their activities. The Elmer family has logged nearly 19,000 road miles thus far in visiting 38 states in their 50-state quest.
