David Scott Dildy

David is from a small town outside Chattanooga, Tennessee. He graduated from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga with a BA in History. A few months after Graduation, David, his wife Sofia, and his daughter Stephanie moved to Virginia so that he could begin graduate studies in History at the College of William & Mary on a full scholarship. While at William & Mary, David worked at the Omohundro Institute of Early American History & Culture, a publishing house jointly sponsored by the College and the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation. During his time at the Institute, David learned the craft of editing scholarly books and peer-reviewed articles in The William & Mary Quarterly, the world's premiere journal of colonial American history. He wrote his thesis on the community of frontiersmen who fought and defeated the British at the Battle of King's Mountain during the American Revolution and graduated with an MA.

After he left the College, David taught Social Studies in the Chesapeake Public Schools for several years. He had the distinction of winning the Teacher of the Month award for his very first month of teaching. (He's pretty sure that his Advanced Placement US History students stuffed the ballot box but a win is a win!) Though David thoroughly enjoyed teaching he became convinced that he had not realized his full potential so back to school he went, this time to study law at Regent University School of Law on an academic scholarship.

While at Regent, David participated in the International Law & Human Rights program in Strasbourg, France. After having David as one of his students in that program, Dean of the Law School Jeffery A. Brauch offered David a job as his Graduate Assistant. In that capacity, David assisted the Dean with scholarly research, editing, and also evaluated potential textbooks for the Dean's classes. David also served as a founding member and Book Review Editor of the Regent Journal of International Law and was also a member of the Maritime Law and International Trade Society.

David has experience in a broad array of legal matters. He worked on several high-profile cases in which millions of dollars were at stake. These included government contract litigation and a wrongful terminaiton action against a local municipality, several civil rights cases, and defending a local resident who had been wrongfully targeted in a Fair Labor Standards Act case. Later, David expanded his practice and litigated divorce, support, and custody and visitation cases throughout the Tidewater area. He developed a reputation as a strong advocate for children in his role as a guardian ad litem in contested divorce and custody cases.

In 2020, David joined Weisberg & Weisberg, where he uses his fourteen years of experience in family law to help his clients successfully navigate what is often the most stressful event in their lives. Always a teacher at heart, David's goal is to help his clients understand their case in its totality -- strengths, weaknesses, how a court is likely to view the matter, and the long-term implications of the case. He finds deep satisfaction in helping people protect themselves and their children in the complex and challenging world of the legal system.

David and his family live in Chespeake, Virginia, where he is very active in the church he helped found in 2005.
