If you live in Western Pennsylvania, you probably recognize Attorney Edgar Snyder pointing his finger and saying, “There’s never a fee, unless we get money for you!” But you most likely don't know the story of how he became the most well-known injury lawyer in the area.
Attorney Snyder’s father, a Russian immigrant, and his mother, a Pittsburgh native, believed that hard work and a good education would lead to success. They told their children that they had two career options: medicine or law. Because of his skill at winning arguments and his success on his college debate team, Attorney Snyder decided that becoming a lawyer was the path for him.
After graduating from Pennsylvania State University and the University of Pittsburgh School of Law, he opened a storefront office in Duquesne, PA across the street from the steel mill. During that time he was also an Allegheny County assistant public defender, representing several high-profile clients, including Stanley Hoss, in what many consider to be Western Pennsylvania’s trial of the century.
Although successful in his defense career, Attorney Snyder’s passion was helping injury victims and people with disabilities. Through his storefront office he got to know many of his clients well and wanted to expand his personal injury practice.
In 1982, he discovered the power of advertising. He soon became a household name, and today, Edgar Snyder & Associates has five offices across Western Pennsylvania and is recognized as a top-rated personal injury law firm.
Both Attorney Snyder and the firm have received AV® Preeminent™ ratings from Martindale-Hubbell, the highest rating based on legal ability and general ethics standards. Attorney Snyder also received Trib Total Media Readers’ Choice Award for Best Attorney in the City.
He was selected for inclusion in 2004-2010 and 2014 & 2015 Pennsylvania Super Lawyers®, an honor awarded to the top five percent of state-wide lawyers. Attorney Snyder is a 2012 Penn State Alumni fellow, a lifelong title given in recognition of outstanding professional accomplishments. The award is the highest honor given by the Penn State Alumni Association.
He is also one of only 19 Pitt Law alumni to receive a 225th Anniversary Medallion from the University of Pittsburgh. The prestigious award recognizes alumni who have made outstanding contributions to their professional fields and who continue to contribute to the success of the University and its students.
Attorney Snyder says, “I believe that if you are fortunate enough to be successful in business, you have a responsibility to give back to the community.” He has been honored for his philanthropic efforts in both the local and international communities. His awards include:
• PNC’s Community Builders Award• Distinguished Alumni Award from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law
• Emanuel Spector Memorial Award, which recognizes exemplary service to the community
The law firm represents many victims of alcohol-related and distracted driving accidents and sees firsthand the devastation they can cause. Because of this, we use paid public service announcements to raise awareness and discourage drunk driving and texting while driving. The firm also sponsors a variety of community service projects to promote the messages: "Don’t Drink & Drive" and "Don't Text & Drive."
