John A. Hammerstrand

John A. Hammerstrand joined the firm in 2009 after completing his legal studies at the University of San Diego, School of Law. Since that time, he has advocated for victims’ suffering from personal injury due to the negligence of others. Mr. Hammerstrand’s professionalism and diligence have been recognized by his peers, having been selected as a Rising Star by SuperLawyers Magazine and one of San Diego’s Best of the Bar by the San Diego Business Journal in 2016 and 2017.

Prior to attending law school, Mr. Hammerstrand earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from San Diego State University. While there, he taught introductory courses in economics and was bestowed with the Favorite Faculty Award by his students. He also studied abroad at Oxford University in the United Kingdom where he was a recipient of the Ronald Reagan Scholarship.

Mr. Hammerstrand’s professional endeavors do not stop in the courtroom. He has a passion for aviation and is a pilot for SkyWest Airlines. Type rated to fly both the Embraer and Canadair Regional Jet, he holds an Airline Transport Pilot certificate, the highest grade certificate awarded to a pilot by the Federal Aviation Administration. In addition to his flying duties, Mr. Hammerstrand also serves as a mediator and team leader with the Professional Standards Department where he works to resolve crew conflicts.

Understanding the power of generosity and community building, Mr. Hammerstrand has maintained a commitment to giving back. He has volunteered throughout the United States and performed charity work that includes assisting the Mississippi Center for Justice in their quest for equality, cleaning-up and rebuilding New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina, and the revitalization of women’s shelters throughout San Diego County. Mr. Hammerstrand currently volunteers with Big Brothers Big Sisters of San Diego as a “Big” and is a member of the Young Professional Committee.
