John was born in Conway, the son of Furman and Ann Long. After graduating from Conway High School in 1988, he graduated from The College of Charleston with a BS Degree in Business Administration in 1993. He went on to graduate from Regent University, School of Law in 2006 with a Juris Doctor Degree.
Prior to attending law school, John worked as an Inspector with the U.S. Customs Service for ten years. He was stationed in Miami, Florida and Charleston, South Carolina. He earned two of the highest awards given by U.S. Customs Service, the Humanitarian Award and the Unit Citation Award. John also served as the President of the South Carolina Chapter of the National Treasury Employees Union. He currently serves as Secretary for the Board of Directors of The Horry County Solid Waste Authority, and he is married with three children.
John worked as a clerk for Hearn, Brittain & Martin throughout law school, and after graduation, joined this firm as an attorney in 2007, working out of the Conway office. John is a member of the South Carolina Bar, The Horry County Bar, The South Carolina Association of Criminal Defense Attorneys, and the South Carolina Trial Lawyers Association. He is admitted to practice law in The United States District Court of South Carolina.
