      Biography

John T. Loss has spent his entire 33-year private practice career at the firm, where he represents health care providers in the defense of medical malpractice actions, and counsels them in professional disciplinary matters. His broad litigation practice also includes assisting injured persons with their legal challenges. John also devotes a significant portion of his practice to preparing appellate briefs and presenting oral arguments. John serves as one of only four statewide evaluators for both No-Fault and SUM arbitrators.

Early in his career, John served as a law clerk to the Hon. Frank M. Johnson, Jr. of the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit in Montgomery, Ala., an experience he credits as his guiding influence. A strong respect for Judge Johnson's profound decisions and their historic impact on this country forms the core of John's commitment to fairness and justice. Today, John honors the legacy of Judge Johnson, serving as a literary executor for his papers located at the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C.

A native of Western New York, John graduated from Canisius College, summa cum laude with All-College Honors, before going on to Cornell Law School, where he finished second in his class, earning his J.D. magna cum laude. While at Cornell, he served as managing editor of the Cornell Law Review, where he authored "Criminals Selling Their Stories: The First Amendment Requires Legislative Reexamination." John's highly decorated tenure at Cornell also included his receipt of the Corpus Juris Secundum Award, given by the Cornell Law School faculty to the student who has made the most significant contribution to legal scholarship; the Kerr Memorial Prize, awarded to a third-year law student who demonstrates general academic excellence; and membership in the Order of the Coif.
