John Townsend Cooper

John Townsend's goal as an attorney at Cooper & Bilbrey, P.C. has always been to help clients get through difficult situations. His consistent objective is to help clients manage their situation, come to a resolution, and move on with their lives and businesses. Prior to attending law school, John Townsend worked as a real estate broker and in the construction field. He holds a SC Real Estate Broker's licence and a SC Residential Builder's license and has civil litigation experience in cases involving admiralty and maritime matters, business disputes, construction issues, contracts, personal injury, and real estate matters. He has an AV Preeminent rating from Martindale-Hubbell. He was selected by Super Lawyers as a 2015 Rising Star and by the American Society of Legal Advocates as one of the Top 40 Under 40 Litigation lawyers in the State of South Carolina for 2014 and 2015. He currently serves on the South Carolina Bar Trial and Appellate Advocacy Section Council and the South Carolina Bar International Law Committee. He is a member of the Maritime Law Association of the United States. He is a member and former Port Director for the Southeastern Admiralty Law Institute and a former member of the South Carolina Bar Pro Bono Committee. He is a long-time member of the Mount Pleasant Sertoma Club and served as President in 2018-2019.
