"Kathleen E. Beatty is a trial attorney focusing on premises cases in the Manhattan office. Born in Louisiana, but raised in Delaware, she obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice from the University of Delaware. Earning a Juris Doctor from New York Law School is what brought her to NYC, where she has resided for fifteen years.
She draws from over eleven years of experience successfully resolving a breadth of hundreds of personal injury cases. Top practice areas have been construction accidents, elevator malfunctions, slips and falls, trips and falls, wrongful death, toxic torts, motor vehicle collisions, medical malpractice, nursing home negligence, product liability, and mass torts. Always prosecuting a robust portfolio, she has recovered millions for her clients through any means necessary, whether trial, arbitration, mediation, or settlement.
She has single handedly tried cases in every borough of NYC, as well as surrounding areas, such as Westchester and Long Island. Some of her most prized successes were ones that involved complex litigation and the high probability of failure. One top trial experience involved a theory of liability that was circumstantial at best. Although defense counsel refused to offer a penny to settle, a New York County jury agreed that her client was entitled to compensation in excess of half a million dollars.
Part of her success stems from a deep understanding of the law that has flourished by virtue of briefing and arguing numerous appeals across New York state. Some momentous cases involved retention of venue of a wrongful death action in Bronx County against a Westchester County defendant, reversal of a dismissal of the case of a woman who slipped and fell on ice during a storm in progress, and affirmation of summary judgment for a bicyclist who was struck by a motorist.
Winning, especially in challenging cases like the ones mentioned above, is one of her most prized joys. Another is the insurmountable pride she feels in maximizing damages for a client since she will never be able to make him or her whole again. From small to large, no matter the case, Kathleen takes pride in providing strong communication and support to every client, of every background. Indeed, throughout life, she has been drawn to and fulfilled by helping those in need. She has dedicated countless hours of time and services as a volunteer - tutoring ESL students for the SAT, serving and managing phones at food pantries, preparing college applications, guiding disabled runners in Central Park, robotics engineering with 4th graders, supporting literacy at the library, and cleaning up the park.
Outside of the practice of law, she enjoys running, cycling, swimming, and lifting. Recent case resolutions include:
$1.2 million for a worker who fell from a ladder while running cable and sustained injuries to his back and lower extremity.
$900,000 for a man who was injured in his rental apartment when kitchen cabinets fell onto him, injuring his neck.
$750,000 for occupants of a vehicle that was rear-ended by a truck, causing them to sustain injuries."
