Ken Scholtz represents a wide range of clients from large corporations to small businesses, school districts, municipalities, and individuals. Ken has extensive experience as counsel for employers involved in Workers' Compensation litigation. Ken's practice also focuses on commercial litigation arising out of property damage, personal injury defense, contract disputes, employment, and real estate transactions. Ken has significant trial experience. He has frequent Court appearances for purposes of motions practice, including oral argument on dispositive motions and preliminary injunction actions.
Ken has also represented clients in the coal mining industry for the purpose of general regulatory compliance, as well as litigation before the Review Commission of the Mine Safety and Health Administration, and at the U.S. District Court level. Ken has also represented and advised school districts, municipalities as well as individual homeowners and commercial property owners on matters relating to County property tax issues in Allegheny and Butler Counties; this includes representing client's interests at hearings before the Allegheny County Board of Property Assessments Appeals and Review, as well as the Board of Viewers, and Court of Common Pleas. A portion of Ken's practice also includes representing clients involved in eminent domain proceedings.
For the past ten years, Ken has volunteered his time as an advocate for victims seeking Protection from Abuse Orders in the Court of Common Pleas of Allegheny County, Family Division. Along with other members of the firm, Ken has also served on the committee of the Allegheny County Bar Association "Backpack Project," which is a program through which bookbags and school supplies are donated and distributed to elementary school children in the Pittsburgh City Schools at the start of each school year. Ken also serves on the Board of Trustees of The Early Learning Institute, which is a non-profit organization that provides comprehensive programs and services for children with special needs. Ken recently completed the Trial Advocacy College program at the University of Virginia School of Law. Ken also participated in the Leadership Pittsburgh program, and is a graduate of LDI Class XII.
For the second year in a row, Ken was named a "Pennsylvania Rising Star" in 2011, in the area of Workers' Compensation, by Pennsylvania Super Lawyers, a Publication of Philadelphia Magazine. Ken is an active member and supporter of the Bucknell Gridiron Club.
Ken graduated from Bucknell University with a B.A. in political science. He joined Tucker Arensberg after graduating from the Penn State University - Dickinson School of Law in 2001.
