As a former assistant district attorney and successful private practice owner, Marilee D. Hazel (formerly Marilee Hazel Brown), provides clients broad expertise in the legal process and a depth of trial experience when cases cannot be resolved outside the courtroom. She makes a difference by looking beyond the ordinary to find creative solutions that work to the best interests of her clients. In private practice, her experience is drawn from having handled hundreds of cases in the tri-county area.
For the past 14 years, Ms. Hazel has built a family law and personal injury practice that has helped hundreds of clients successfully resolve high-conflict disputes. The firm's probate and estate practice is also thriving, as Ms. Hazel and her staff work closely with clients to ensure that their rights are zealously protected against all odds. Additionally, Ms. Hazel has successfully represented clients business and tort litigation.
Prior to being in private practice, Ms. Hazel was a highly productive felony prosecutor and chief misdemeanor prosecutor in Lamar County, Texas. Ms. Hazel led all aspects of legal proceedings related to felony and misdemeanor charges. In addition, she was the county's principal juvenile attorney in cases ranging from class B misdemeanors to first degree felonies. She holds a law degree from Texas Tech University School of Law and a Bachelor of Arts in Government and Languages from The University of Texas at Austin.
Marilee Hazel has argued cases in person before the Sixth Court of Appeals, including a nationally debated case in which Marilee Hazel's prosecution was argued and upheld at the Texas Supreme Court. In her appellate practice she has also represented clients before the Third and Thirteenth Courts of Appeal in Texas in criminal matters. Her writings on DWI law and evidence have been published in the Texas District and County Attorneys Association magazine. Her writings on business torts have been published in the Texas State Bar's Business Litigation Journal.
