Marya Schalk graduated from the University of Tennessee College of Law in 2005. She served as a law clerk for one year to the Honorable Joseph M. Tipton of the Tennessee Court of Criminal Appeals in Knoxville. In 2006, she joined the law firm of Summers, Rufolo & Rodgers. She has focused on criminal defense, including federal criminal defense, state criminal defense, and appellate work. She has worked with Mr. Summers on all of his federal cases since joining the firm, as well as many state cases. The majority of her work is in federal criminal defense and appellate work. She has filed briefs and petitions in the Tennessee Court of Criminal Appeals, the Tennessee Supreme Court, the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the United States Supreme Court. Marya has been named to the Mid-South Rising Stars by Super Lawyers from 2011-2019.
Marya is from Nashville where she attended Father Ryan High School and Vanderbilt University. She moved to Chattanooga in 2006 to be with her husband, Joe, who grew up in Chattanooga.
