Matt grew up in Northeast Georgia in a rural community in a single parent home with little means. After working various manufacturing jobs, Matt attended college and then law school on an academic scholarship. Matt graduated 3rd in his school class. He was a member of the Brainerd Currie Honor Society, was awarded five CALI Awards for Excellence (highest grade in the class), and was a member of the Law Review.
After law school, Matt became an associate, and then a partner, at a prestigious, nationally recognized trial firm where he worked on complex catastrophic injury cases ranging from product liability claims to tractor-trailer wreck cases. These matters involved the most serious losses including paralysis, burns and wrongful death. Matt’s diverse and broad litigation experience includes claims involving Ford Explorer rollover/roof crush injuries/deaths, seat-back collapses, defective tire cases, GM fuel-fed fires, nursing home abuse, dram shop claims, insurance bad faith, legal and medical malpractice cases, hydroplaning and other roadway defects as well as many, many car wreck and trucking cases against the Nation’s largest and best defended trucking companies.
After spending 12 years at his prior firm, Matt returned to North Georgia. Matt has continued to represent the same type of clients he had previously represented with equal or greater success than before. Matt has tried several wrongful death and serious injury cases in courts in the Southeast, and in several cases has obtained the largest jury verdict in the history of county where the cases were tried. While the Firm’s primary case load is in Georgia, the Firm continues to handle cases cases throughout the Southeast.
Matt is a frequent speaker at trial lawyer meetings and has published several articles. Matt’s ability is best measured by what other lawyers think of him - most of his cases (92%) come from other lawyers who associate him to handle complex cases.
