Matthew S. Van Bruggen is an Attorney in the Pemberton Law firm and works out of the Wadena and Park Rapids offices. He began practicing law in 2002 and focuses on the practice areas of civil litigation; including personal injury, wrongful death, motor vehicle accidents, slip and fall, and family law, divorce, probate, real estate, banking law, health care law and wills and estate planning. Matt was recognized as a 2010 Minnesota "Rising Star" award issued by Minnesota Law and Politics magazine.
Matt was raised in Wadena, Minnesota. He attended the University of South Dakota where he graduated with an undergraduate degree in Political Science/Criminal Justice. Matt then attended Hamline University School of Law in St. Paul where he earned his Juris Doctor.
He is a member of the Minnesota and South Dakota State Bar Associations, the Minnesota Association for Justice, Legal Services of Northwest Minnesota Pro Bono Program and acts as an arbitrator for AAA no-fault arbitrations. Matt is admitted to practice in Minnesota State Court, South Dakota State Court and the U.S District Court for the State of Minnesota.
Matt is active in the community and currently serves as a board member for Tri-County Health Care (Chair 2018-2019), member of the Wadena Lions (President 2013-2014), member of Wadena Elks, board member of Big Sand Lake Association, past member of Wadena Area College Foundation, past member and Chair of the Wadena-Deer Creek Education Foundation and is a youth hockey coach.
Matt and his wife Shanna reside in Wadena with their four children, Ava, Jack, Theodore and Vivian. Matt's interests outside his practice include golf, fishing, spending time at the lake, watching the Vikings and the Wild and spending time with family.
