May worked professionally in the telecommunications and design industries. While in the design industry, she specialized in kitchen and baths, and worked with many independent contractors, small businesses, and large commercial developers. She developed a passion in advocating for business owners that inspired her to move into the legal profession.
After graduating cum laude with a bachelor's in Jurisprudence from the University of Baltimore, she returned home to Southern California. She went on to Thomas Jefferson School of Law as an Intellectual Property Fellow. Working in the law school's Small Business Law Clinic, she discovered her passion in business and taxation. After graduating law school, she worked at an investment firm in Carlsbad, CA while pursuing a Master of Laws (LLM) study in Taxation. The LLM path allowed her to specialize how tax laws affect various transactions from business to estate planning, from domestic to international dealings.
At age 12, her family arrived from the Philippines and lived in the Chicago area for less than a year before relocating to Southern California. Growing up she had memories of her time in the Midwest as a kid so she always considered going back. When an opportunity with a law firm opened up in Madison, Wisconsin, she moved with her two daughters. Although her older daughter returned for college at the University of California, San Diego, they've slowly adjusted to the Wisconsin winters and Madison has become their home.
