Merle Johnson joined the firm in 1955. Estate planning constitutes much of his practice. Additionally, he has expertise in corporate and business law and adoptions.
Merle is admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court for the District of South Dakota, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit, and the United States Supreme Court. He is a member of the State Bar of South Dakota and serves on the UPC & Guardianship Review Committee of the Real Property, Probate & Trust Law Section. Since 1987, Merle has appeared in The Best Lawyers in America in the area of Trusts and Estates.
He has given time and energy to the University of Sioux Falls (Board of Trustees 1975 to present), the Christian Legal Society (Board of Directors 1970 to 1992), Christian Counseling Services (Board of Directors 1975 to 1993), Manna Retreat Center (Board of Directors 1980 to 1990), and the Woodlawn Cemetery Association (Board of Directors 1984 to present). He has also held leadership positions in the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, Kiwanis, Southeastern Mental Health Center and First Baptist Church.
