Myron grew up in Union Springs, Alabama, and now lives with his wife, Karen, and their children, Maggie and Corde, in Montgomery. He attended Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and went on to graduate with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from The University of Alabama at Birmingham. He then attended the Cumberland School of Law where he received his Juris Doctor degree in 1998.
After serving in Governor Jim Folsom's administration as director of constituent affairs, Myron began making his mark in Birmingham as a consultant for legendary Birmingham mayor Richard Arrington, Jr. He later worked for a Birmingham law firm where he represented the Jefferson County Personnel Board and played a key role in overseeing compliance with a United States Supreme Court consent decree in the landmark case of United States v. Jefferson County Personnel Board. In 2002, Myron partnered with attorney Shane Seaborn to form Penn & Seaborn, LLC, Attorneys at Law, which now has offices in Montgomery, Union Springs, Clayton, and Eufaula. Penn & Seaborn has been influential in a number of multi-million dollar verdicts and settlements in cases involving, but not limited to: wrongful death, personal injury, trucking and automobile accidents, products liability, and fraud.
Myron began his own political career when he returned to his home county in 2000 to successfully run for Chairman of the Bullock County Commission. Just two years later, He was elected to the Alabama State Senate representing District 28, which included Barbour, Bullock, Henry, Lee, Macon, and Russell counties. In his two terms from 2002-2010, Senator Penn was elected to numerous Senate Committees and served as Chairman of the following: Committee on the Judiciary, Joint Legislative Committee on Prisons, Committee on Confirmations, Committee on Tourism and Marketing, and Senate Democratic Caucus. Notably, Myron wrote the 2007 Rules of the Senate of the State of Alabama, and his success in the Alabama Senate has proven to be most beneficial at Penn & Seaborn. When he and Karen learned that baby Corde was arriving soon, Myron decided to not seek reelection-opting instead to spend more time at home and at his law firm.
Experience and expertise in the legal and political fields helped pave the way for Myron's continued leadership, both inside and outside the courtroom. He is admitted to practice in all state courts of Alabama as well as the Northern, Middle, and Southern districts of Federal Court in Alabama. He currently serves on the State of Alabama Personnel Board, and the State Employees Insurance Board. He is a member of the Alabama State Bar, Alabama Association for Justice Executive Committee, Million Dollar Advocates Forum, Montgomery Area Chamber of Commerce, Bethel Masonic Lodge #123, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated, Conservation Alabama, and is a former member of the Alabama Shakespeare Festival Board of Directors.
Myron is active in many charitable organizations, including Autism Speaks, March of Dimes, and the American Cancer Society. He also volunteers as a youth mentor and was the presenter of the Myron C. Penn Youth Award, which was sponsored each month for six years by the Bullock County Commission in recognition of young citizens who demonstrate leadership and civic duty. Myron's advocacy for the people of Alabama earned him recognition by the Montgomery Advertiser as the recipient of the King Spirit Award for displaying the spirit and leadership of the late Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr.
Myron and Karen are outdoor enthusiasts, and they enjoy spending personal time with family and friends.
