Leo Daughtry founded Daughtry, Woodard, Lawrence, & Starling in Smithfield, North Carolina. He founded the firm as a sole practitioner in 1969. Since that time he has led the firm to its current posture with nine attorneys and over twenty staff members. Prior to founding the firm, he served as a Judge Advocate General with the United States Air Force from 1966 to 1969. Mr. Daughtry has been involved in many complex litigation matters; both civil and criminal; jury and nonjury.
He became active in politics in 1976 and was elected to the NC Senate in 1989. His political career has expanded to both the NC Senate and the NC House of Representatives; including House Majority Leader and House Minority Leader.
Leo is active in and around Johnston County, including the Johnston County Schools, Johnston County Chamber of Commerce, and Boy Scouts of America.
Leo and his wife, Helen, are active members of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church and other civic organizations.
