Mr. Woelfel is a graduate of the University of California at Berkeley and University of California Hastings College of the Law. Prior to founding the Woelfel Law Firm, Mr. Woelfel was a founding partner in the civil rights litigation firm Loughrey & Woelfel LLP, located in Oakland and Walnut Creek, California. While at Loughrey & Woelfel, Mr. Woelfel's diverse practice included criminal defense as well as civil rights and special education litigation in both state and federal court.
Mr. Woelfel has also worked as a law clerk with the Alameda County District Attorney's Office, the Federal Public Defender's Office for the Northern District of California, and the Placer County Public Defender's Office. Currently, Mr. Woelfel's practice focuses primarily on criminal defense and he has defended hundreds of felony and misdemeanor matters throughout the state of California. Mr. Woelfel represents clients in matters ranging from DUI to homicide, and has earned a reputation as an aggressive, no-nonsense defense attorney who is willing to go the extra mile to defend his clients.
Mr. Woelfel has handled cases involving murder, sexual assault, robbery, narcotics offenses, juvenile crimes and gang crimes, to name a few. Among his many cases was the reversal of Ms. Susan Greenburg's first degree murder conviction, and her release after 16 years of wrongful incarceration. Mr. Woelfel was part of the trial team that successfully reversed this conviction, and he can be seen eliciting testimony from a forensic analyst in Ms. Greenburg's case in the documentary "Abused."
Mr. Woelfel belongs to many legal organizations, including the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, The American Trial Lawyers Association, and the El Dorado County Bar Association. Mr. Woelfel acts as a mentor in the Teen Court program, and frequently is invited to speak with medical marijuana collectives and other organizations to describe the status of and changes to the law. Mr. Woelfel lives near South Lake Tahoe with his wife Jessica and his three children.
