      Biography

Scott grew up in Conyers, Georgia, graduating from Rockdale County High School in 1990. From there, he moved to Rome, Georgia, and attended Berry College, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Political Science. After graduating from Berry in 1994, he was accepted at the Georgia State University College of Law in Atlanta.

While attending GSU Law, he completed a Governor's Internship with Superior Court Judge Stanley Gault in Forsyth County and worked with Fulton Senior Superior Court Judge William Daniel. There, he helped edit Daniel's Criminal Trial Practice, a handbook utilized by lawyers and judges throughout the state of Georgia. Also, he was a member of the Student Trial Lawyers Association Mock Trial Team where he competed nationally against other student mock trial teams.

After graduation from law school, Scott took a position as an Assistant District Attorney in Cherokee County, Georgia, where he worked as a prosecutor from 1997 until 2008. During his tenure at the Cherokee County District Attorney's Office, he prosecuted everything from theft to murder cases. Scott successfully prosecuted Cherokee County's first racketeering case pursuant to the Georgia RICO statute and has successfully argued cases (including oral arguments) before both the Georgia Court of Appeals and the Georgia Supreme Court. From 2001-2004 he was the designated Drug Prosecutor for Cherokee County and handled all cases made by the Cherokee Multi-Agency Narcotics Squad (CMANS). Additionally, he was the lead Asset Forfeiture attorney from 2001 until 2008.

In 2008, he was recruited by the District Attorney for the Appalachian Judicial Circuit to come on-board as the Senior Assistant District Attorney in Pickens County, Georgia. There, he ran the day-to-day operations of the office supervising a staff of Assistant District Attorneys and Investigators. This position also allowed him to focus his efforts on the most serious cases, such as those involving violent offenses (Murder, Aggravated Assault , etc.), sexual offenses (Rape, Child Molestation, etc.) and Drug Trafficking (Methamphetamine, Cocaine, and Meth Labs). While working as a prosecutor, Scott developed a reputation in the legal community (among both prosecutors and defense attorneys) as both an effective litigator and a knowledgeable teacher. He served as an instructor for the Prosecuting Attorney's Council of Georgia's Drug Prosecutor Training from 2003-2012, teaching drug prosecutors from around the state the "ins and outs" of drug cases. Scott is also certified by the Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council as a Guest Instructor in the areas of Search and Seizure, Courtroom Testimony, Asset Forfeitures and Report Writing.

In January of 2013, Scott made the leap from government employee to private practice when he joined noted attorney Ross D. Grisham to form Grisham & Poole, P.C. He now uses the experience he gained from 15 years as a state prosecutor to zealously defend clients who have been charged with violations of the law. As a prosecutor, he saw first-hand that not everyone arrested is guilty and after trying more than 90 jury trials as lead prosecutor, he knows what it takes to win both in and out of the courtroom.

On a personal note, Scott has been married to his wife Jennifer since 2005. He has a 12 year old step-son named Frankie and, in 2011, added a daughter named Mollie to the family. The Poole family lives in Ball Ground and attends Ball Ground United Methodist Church, where Scott is Chairman of the Church Counsel and plays guitar in the church band. The family enjoys traveling and outdoor adventures such as hiking, kayaking, and four-wheeling.
