Sheila K. Nicholson is a partner at Quintairos, Prieto, Wood & Boyer, P.A. and practices from the firm's Tampa, FL and Jackson, MS offices. Her areas of practice include general liability defense, premises liability and premises protection, medical malpractice defense, professional malpractice defense and nursing home defense litigation. Additionally, Ms. Nicholson's litigation experience extends to food claims liability. In this area, she counsels clients, healthcare providers and public health personnel on such issues as foodborne illness litigation, food-safety liability risk controls and corrective action plans.
A graduate of Georgia State University, where she received a Bachelor of Science degree magna cum laude in Physical Therapy in 1984, Ms. Nicholson received a Master's degree, with honors, in Health Education at the University of Alabama in 1988. In 2002, she earned a Juris Doctor cum laude from Stetson University College of Law, where she also received a Master of Business Administration. While in law school, Ms. Nicholson was the recipient of the Walter Mann Award, the Victor O. Wehle Award, and the William F. Blews Pro Bono Service Award. She is included in Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges.
Prior to entering the field of law, Ms. Nicholson spent roughly fifteen years as a physical therapist and/or director of healthcare rehabilitation departments.
Ms. Nicholson is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association's House of Delegates, and serves on the Board and Executive Committee of the Florida Physical Therapy Association (FPTA). She is the Director of FPTA's West Central District.
Ms. Nicholson is a longstanding speaker on topics of healthcare, risk management and documentation at accredited seminars locally, statewide and nationally. She frequently provides in-service training for clients on issues of documentation, risk exposure or other requested topics. Within the last two years, she has been selected to lecture at the American Physical Therapy Association, Florida Health Care Association, Mississippi Health Care Association, New Mexico Health Care Association, Florida Assisted Living Affiliation, Florida Association Directors of Nursing Administration, Florida Association of Homes and Services for the Aging, Florida Occupational Therapy Association, Florida Association of Speech Language and Audiology, Florida Association of Activities Directors, and Dietary Support Services. Additionally, she has authored articles on the Therapy Cap Exception Process and Courtroom Guidance for Physical Therapists.
Ms. Nicholson is licensed to practice law in Florida and Mississippi. She is a member of the American Bar Association Health Law Section, The Florida Bar's Health Law, and Trial Lawyers Sections, and Young Lawyers Division, the Mississippi Bar Association, and the Hillsborough County Bar Association.
