Steven Allen Mimm, Esq., joined The Swain Law Firm as part of the firm's litigation group in the Summer of 2022. With over a decade of litigation experience, Mr. Mimm practices in the areas of civil, commercial, criminal defense, and professional licensing actions. He also handles Wills, probate, estate and guardianship litigation.
Mr. Mimm, a Montgomery County native, graduated from Cheltenham High School in 2001. After attending Clarion University (now named PennWest Clarion), Mr. Mimm graduated Magna Cum Lauda with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. He obtained dual majors in both Business Management and Industrial Relations. In 2005, Mr. Mimm began his legal education at Widener University Commonwealth Law School, Pennsylvania's Capital's only Law School, located in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. In 2008, Mr. Mimm graduated from Widener Law and was barred both in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
From 2009 to 2014, Mr. Mimm began his professional career as a criminal defense attorney. During this time, Mr. Mimm engaged in multiple-day jury trials, complex defense litigation, and defended thousands of clients with criminal charges ranging from misdemeanors, like Driving Under the Influence (DUI), to extremely serious felonies, including felony assaults and homicides. As a Dauphin County Public Defender, Mr. Mimm worked with a variety of professionals in the legal community such as medical and forensic experts, law enforcement, and prosecuting attorneys to assert his clients' rights in the criminal judicial system.
After his tenure as a Criminal Defense Attorney, Mr. Mimm was hired as Assistant Counsel for the Pennsylvania Governor's Office of General Counsel (OGC). From 2014 to 2022, Mr. Mimm acted as a Prosecuting Attorney for the Bureau of Professional and Occupational Affairs (BPOA) under Pennsylvania's Department of State (DOS). As a Prosecuting Attorney, Mr. Mimm dealt directly with Professional Licensing and was responsible for overseeing Professional License litigation for violations of Professional Licensing Acts and Regulations. In his eight-year career at OGC, Mr. Mimm engaged in litigation in the following areas:
Auctioneer Examiners,In 2022, Mr. Mimm was promoted to the role of Board Counsel, where he served as Legal Counsel for Professional Licensing Boards including Barber Examiners, Chiropractic, Social Workers, Marriage & Family Therapists, and Professional Counselors. Shortly after, Mr. Mimm relocated back to the Montgomery County and joined The Swain Law Firm where he practices today.
