Thomas W. Caufman is an associate in the Tampa office of Quintairos, Prieto, Wood & Boyer, P.A. His areas of practice include nursing home litigation, administrative law, medical malpractice, and professional liability. He has litigated more than 300 cases involving alleged violations of the standard of care in nursing homes, hospitals, home health agencies and assisted living facilities. Mr. Caufman previously worked for the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA) and during his eight years with AHCA, obtained valuable insight in the representation of defense matters and presenting crucial information to the agency.
A graduate of the University of Florida, Mr. Caufman obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in business administration in 1984, and received his Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Florida College of Law in 1989. While in law school, he was a member of the Moot Court Trial Team.
Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Caufman practiced law at Gallagher & Howard, P.A. in Tampa. His law career began in 1989 representing the Pinellas and Pasco County Health Departments. He served on the Pinellas and Pasco County Institutional Review Board. He was also a member of the Hillsborough and Pinellas Adult Protection Teams and a member of the Organ and Tissue Procurement and Transplantation Advisory Board. Mr. Caufman serves on the Board of Directors of the Associated Home Health Industries of Florida. He also serves as a volunteer with Bay Area Legal Services. Mr. Caufman is a member of the Florida Bar and is admitted to practice law in Florida.
