Mr. Smith earned his Juris Doctorate degree from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1984. He has been practicing law since 1984 and is currently a partner of Chappell, Smith & Arden. His practice focuses on representing injured workers in workers compensation cases He is presently serving a two-year term as president of the Association of South Carolina Claimant Attorneys for Workers' Compensation. Elected in November of 1999, Mr. Smith's term ends in November of 2001. Mr. Smith serves on the Board of Directors for Kids Chance, which is an organization providing college scholarships to children of workers who have died or are permanently disabled as a result of an on-the-job injury. He is a frequent lecturer on Workers' Compensation issues.
